Johnson was aggressive from the start, scoring six of the Wildcats’ first 16 points. Last Monday the sophomore guard was 4 of 5 from beyond the arc. Against the Cyclones (20-8, 10-6 Big 12), Johnson got to the rim. He said he noticed Iowa State was going over screens, unlike the Jayhawks, who went under, allowing for open jump shots.“In shoot-around he asked his first question in two years,” Weber said. “So he actually paid attention and asked about how we guard something, so he’s made some progress. I wish it would’ve been sooner, but I’ll take it any time.”
“He (Foster) obviously is our main scorer, and if he’s struggling someone has to pick it up,” Johnson said. “Me and Justin, ever since the summer, have been the other two people that can score on the team that can create our own shot. It was up to me and him today, I guess.”
“It’s my confidence level,” Johnson said about his big week. “I’ve always been the type of player that plays off of my confidence level. When I’m confident, I tend to play well. When I’m not confident, I just tend to be less aggressive and not play as good.”
