farm subsidies
« on: September 30, 2014, 07:26:50 AM »
so sddad got like a half million dollar check from the gov. because he didn't sell his cows when the drought was bad and everyone was selling their cows. like, he isn't selling his cows for that, he still gets to keep them, he didn't lose anything and now he gets this huge check for just being a cow farmer who arbitrarily chose not to sell them all a year or two ago. I'm probably missing some of the details to this money exchange but I think I have the important parts correct. so, in summary, what in the crap are we doing giving all our cow farmers all this money? like, poor people need money and they didn't sell any cows either.

Government waste. Dumb crap like this is the reason so many people think our government is a joke.

he's just 60 and he wouldn't know what to do with himself for the rest of his life. farmers don't ever quit farming I think. at least I have never heard of one quitting.

Okay, go with my second reply then.  Can cows live like 30 years if they don't get eaten?

I have no idea. I wasn't a very good cow farmer's son.

No. A 15 year old cow is very old. Probably selling most of his cows by age 8.

What is the dollar to cow ratio?  I mean, I have access to several acres that aren't doing anything right now.

sddad better buy like two dozen King Ranch's or he's going to have to pay taxes on that.  I love the end of the fiscal year go nuts buying crap stuff that farmers do.  Also, I could be mistaken, but aren't cattle folks called ranchers, and row crop folks farmers?  Just a hunch.

I have no idea how it was figured but he has, like, thousands of cows. all black ones. used to have some white ones and red ones when I was a kid but apparently they aren't cool anymore.

I think the fast food places all want to say they serve black angus now.

The fact that anyone believes a word of this story, is a stunning indictment of how ignorant and misinformed our society truly is.

he also has zero horses. apparently you can do cow farming with no horses or horse riders working for you. he even calls his employees cowboys but they don't have horses. just trucks and ATVs and stuff. he will sometimes hire actual cowboys to do stuff but it's usually only once a year for a big round up deal. the ATV cowboys do like a thousand percent more roundup'ing than the horse guys so I think it's just for show. I was an ATV cowboy as a kid but one time a horse cowboy had to lasso my handlebars and pull me out of a creek when I got stuck.

I bet I could get a bunch of white cows super cheap since they aren't cool anymore.

1. cheap white cows
2. pasture only
3. never sell
4. profit
