my guess is that dems will be able to hang onto the governorship in north carolina through another election cycle.

there isn't very much in american politics that is enjoyable currently, but one moment to savor occurred last night when california democrats told katie porter to get mumped.

If only we could have kept double tapping weddings with drone strikes, we could have kept Putin honest on Ukraine!!

what is the most peaceful period in world history against a high school teacher's overactive conscience, i ask you.
Putin blames US for invading Ukraine because they expanded NATO.

Putin blames US for invading Ukraine because they withdrew from Afghanistan.

How are these different?

the first one is a motive that is an invention of a variety of analysts and ideologues that is refuted virtually every time putin speaks on the issue.

the second is reporting (admittedly not first hand from putin himself) that describes a signal (not a motive) as perceived and interpreted by putin that costs for invading ukraine would be acceptably low/short-term.

i don't think the tone of this thread reflects the current reality in ukraine (us aid stopped, ukraine running out of munitions and men, russia advancing) very well.

things have only gotten worse over the last month.  it's incredibly depressing how badly we've mumped up.  i suspect we will endure the consequences of these mistakes for the rest of our lives.

I think it is hard to say that Ukraine would have for sure prevailed if the US and other allies continued the same level of support.

I think the sanctions not really working and Russias war time economy being so good has been hardly discussed.

1.  the world would take a completely different message from america being unable to supply/abandoning ukraine and ukraine falling despite solid american support.
2.  i'd push back some on the latter points.  i think the oil restrictions have meaningfully cut russian oil receipts (especially earlier, but still some currently) and import restrictions have been helpful in hampering russian military industry, although obviously not to the level one would like.

Will Putin invade CPAC?

invade a client state?

39
not while trump is alive.

How does that work?  If she statistically can’t win, yet the money wants her just incase he is found guilty. Does she just hang out for a while, or do they keep going to all the meaningless primaries?

her money will dry up after super tuesday.  she'll either drop out then or continue as a zombie campaign.  regardless of how active her campaign is, having her on the ballot gives voters someone to vote for who isn't trump, which is something a lot of voters want.  so she'd still get a significant vote share.

don't think the "hope trump is in jail or dead" case is legit.  they'd go to convention and pick someone the majority of republican primary voters like, not take a runnerup who has been rejected by voters.

i've seen border collie x pyrenees crosses before.  neat looking animals, but i think the conflicting instincts/energy levels could make for a problematic dog.

i follow a guy on twitter who's posted some drone vids of using drones to check cattle that opened my eyes to ag drone use.

afaik there has not been an official investigation released, but the smart people seem to have settled on the idea that it was a ukrainian operation.

Doesn't the bill include funding Ukraine? Maybe Putin won't let them take the win?

yes it includes funding for ukraine.  house republicans are vowing to kill it.
