All the internet gave me was that he was xr at the first height...wtf does that mean?

IIRC, he missed his first attempt at his entry height and then withdrew from the competition with an injury. "X" means he missed the attempt and I believe "R" means he "retired" from the event.

Ahh, thanks bones. That sucks he wasn't 100%, guess the kid from Canada that was really good didnt go due to injury.
