I would like to discuss the Packers having the game stolen by these shitty refs.
-
i don't want to talk about the refs, i wanna talk about how entertaining that was/is.
twitter really makes things super enjoyable.
-
I would like to know where to apply for job or replacement ref

Yeah. Not really giving a damn about the NFL has made this season incredz.

i hope the replacement refs stick around all season and mess crap up some more

very entertaining. It was nice not having a side in the fight. I personally wanted them to reverse the call, just to see the stadium riot.
-
I think after enough games of scab reffing experience they will get as good as regular refs anyway

It would also be really nice if mediocre QB would start to target pro-bowler allstar cat Jordy Nelson more than 1 a quarter

You don't mean this. You're only saying it to be edgy

Replacement refs are the best thing to happen to the NFL in years. These games are 100 times better.

He should have gone for two and ran a flea flicker.

just imagine GB stealing the ball during the conversion and getting +2. omg...omg..
-
anyone care about the Jets/Revis Island? done for the season with ACL.
-
That was the most obvious pass interference I have ever seen. How can you not call that?
The most hilarious part was the two officials at the end who called different things - one called a TD and the other a touchback.

Well it's entirely your fault for being a packers fan.

I just can't wait until the "real" refs come back and remind everybody that they blow calls all the time, too.

seeing all of the packers and other nfl players tweeting things all night was outstanding

People with gambling addictions? :dunno:
-
It's a zero-sum game so the officiating doesn't matter with respect to the outcome (unless they're being paid off, or rooting for one team or another). What does matter is that the game has become a complete farce. The only reason to watch it now is to see what the officials will screw up next.

for me, the nfl is a cute little league that takes up time on sunday. i'll turn it on if the shawshank redemption isn't on, and when i'm bored of MW3, and if i need a hangover nap.

but a reviewable judgement call
Full Statement from the NFL:
In Monday's game between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks, Seattle faced a 4th-and-10 from the Green Bay 24 with eight seconds remaining in the game.
Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson threw a pass into the end zone. Several players, including Seattle wide receiver Golden Tate and Green Bay safety M.D. Jennings, jumped into the air in an attempt to catch the ball.
While the ball is in the air, Tate can be seen shoving Green Bay cornerback Sam Shields to the ground. This should have been a penalty for offensive pass interference, which would have ended the game. It was not called and is not reviewable in instant replay.
When the players hit the ground in the end zone, the officials determined that both Tate and Jennings had possession of the ball. Under the rule for simultaneous catch, the ball belongs to Tate, the offensive player. The result of the play was a touchdown.
Replay Official Howard Slavin stopped the game for an instant replay review. The aspects of the play that were reviewable included if the ball hit the ground and who had possession of the ball. In the end zone, a ruling of a simultaneous catch is reviewable. That is not the case in the field of play, only in the end zone.
Referee Wayne Elliott determined that no indisputable visual evidence existed to overturn the call on the field, and as a result, the on-field ruling of touchdown stood. The NFL Officiating Department reviewed the video today and supports the decision not to overturn the on-field ruling following the instant replay review.
The result of the game is final.
Applicable rules to the play are as follows:
A player (or players) jumping in the air has not legally gained possession of the ball until he satisfies the elements of a catch listed here.
Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3 of the NFL Rule Book defines a catch:
A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) if a player, who is inbounds:
(a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and
(b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and
(c) maintains control of the ball long enough, after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, to enable him to perform any act common to the game (i.e., maintaining control long enough to pitch it, pass it, advance with it, or avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.).
When a player (or players) is going to the ground in the attempt to catch a pass, Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 1 states:
Player Going to the Ground. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.
Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 5 states:
Simultaneous Catch. If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers. It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control. If the ball is muffed after simultaneous touching by two such players, all the players of the passing team become eligible to catch the loose ball.
_________________________
-
A replay official can't determine possession. They could have declared it an incomplete pass, but they can't go to the booth to determine which player is in possession.
So yes, the simultaneous possession call was bullshit, but once the call of touchdown was made, there was nothing that could be done.

LOL at Goodell caving to a bunch of refs.

Goodell is a FP with no backbone. spread the word people.

People should give Goodell hell when the crappy unionized refs blow a game this week.

the scab refs probably took payments from the union refs to blow calls to improve the union refs position

Scabs take what they can get when they can get it, and if the big union bosses were offering, you can bet your ass those scabs took those bribes.
-
LOL at Goodell caving to a bunch of refs.
goodell didn't cave to anyone, this was all on the owners, he works at their direction.
-
That league needs to contract about 4 teams and keep teams in canada or mexico for fringe player dev (more than just warm bodies like nfl europe). The level of play is starting to suck, lead by the QB position.
Will never happen with the owners guaranteed profit model and more crap cities like LA and San Antonio and Birmingham who would be willing to take a relo'd team.
-
Seriously, would you idiots stop blaming/hating on Goodell? None of this was his doing. All on the owners.
-
I think you guys are underplaying the power of Goodell. Remember that he controls the day to day ops, but he also has to build consensus between a very manic group of owners. If he is smart, and I think he is, he has a crap load of power just by playing owners and groups of owners into his interests. Evidence: see the player lock out.

Also, if I were at the game, I'd be upset with Winston's suggestion that the entire stadium was cheering Cassel's injury, which is what he said.

Greg Jennings to have surgery on abdominal or groin injury, I hope this translates to increased targeting of JordyCat. Cobb can suck it.

Thinking of the Cowboys gets me thinking about some of the most painful fanbases in professional sports. They're perennial favorites in August and consistently crap the bed when it gets down to it. As a fan, I think it's worse to experience success and never succeed again than to never win anything at all. You can probably throw the Chiefs in there too, except expectations never seem to be that high I suppose. Who else belongs in this category? New York Knicks? Minnesota Twins?

Quarterbacks (current) who would've won that game considering they got 2 return TDs and were at home and had the ball in OT.
DEFINITELY YES
Brady
Brees
Big Ben
Manning, ELI
Rodgers
PROBABLY
Ryan
Romo
Rivers (yes, Rivers probably wins that game)
Feel free to add to the list because I got bored thinking of quarterbacks I'd rather have in a close playoff game than Peyton Manning (more like WOmanning)

I love watching Manning.

Why would any NFL team want the #1 seed?
Every few years, there is a clear #1 guy like Luck. Not this year. I'd rather have a lower pick and another 2nd round or something like that. They thing the Chiefs have going against them is the recent trend to simply draft qbs, whether they derserve it or not. No way Ponder, Locker, etc should have been first round picks but teams needed qbs so...

Why does Fox insist on having the most boring play-by-play and a spaghetti brained ex-QB color guy as their #1 team. They are the anti-Gus. I've already heard 4 times tonight where Aikman starts a statement and just trails off without making a point.

Welker was the best receiver he ever had, right? (sure, Moss but he was only good for the one season with the Pats) And Welker was nothing special with the Dolphins. But, the Pats system did make Cassel look good for a season so far torn...

True, Branch did have some decent seasons with them. I think my post was as much a question as anything.

Welker was pretty good in Miami with 0 QB play, and Cassel looked like trash in New England. I had Moss on my Fantasy team that year.

I guess you could say that but Moss has records from that season. It was one of the best seasons in NFL WR history...
I think the Pats realized that if you have a good QB he can make the WRs better. They don't spend a whole lot on them (even Moss, IIRC) and it generally works. Sure, let Welker go, plenty of good receivers want to play with Brady.

After a month of silence, Christian Ballard opened up Tuesday regarding the reason he walked away from the Minnesota Vikings in training camp.
The former defensive lineman told USA Today that he wasn't enjoying life in the NFL anymore.
The revelation came less than a week after Ballard was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery following a dispute with his wife at their Lawrence, Kan., home, according to USA Today. The district attorney dropped the case without filing charges, the newspaper reported.

Unsportsmanlike conduct in Seattle
Was anyone else appalled by the unsportsmanlike conduct of the Seattle Seahawks and their fans, juiced on noise, which surely creates as big an advantage over an opponent as any performance enhancing drug and which, to their shame, NFL officials turn the same blind eye they have to concussions and drugs ("Seattle states case loudly, clearly in rout," Sports, Sept. 16)?
It would be simple to fix. Seahawks players and managers would ask their fans to cease and desist, and the NFL would implement a new rule: The visiting team may stop the game when fan noise is greater than a specified decibel level, and should this rule be violated in more than three games, no home games will be played at the offending field for the rest of the season, including playoff games. Things would quiet down.
At a time when the world seems sour, sports give us a place of joy, community and hope, and to have it spoiled is a bigger loss than it seems on the surface.

Well, there is a rule against excessive crowd noise in the NFL. I remember hearing about it when I was a kid and think I saw a team get penalized for it once.
Jerry, I enjoy your column. It's great to get an insider's point of view during the season. What has happened to officials penalizing the home team if the fans are making too much noise for the visiting quarterback to call signals? I used to see it once or twice a season, but I think it's been decades since I've seen it called. --Seth Greeley, Houston
There is a rules procedure set up for crowd noise when the visiting team cannot hear signals because of the noise. If, in the opinion of the referee, and after a signal from the quarterback, the noise is so loud that play cannot continue, the game is stopped and an announcement is made to the crowd in an attempt to quiet things down. After a second announcement and an appeal to the home team to assist in quieting the crowd, and if the noise does not subside, the home team is charged a timeout. The only time a 5-yard penalty would be assessed is when the home team is out of timeouts. This is a very complicated procedure, and you are correct in that it has not been used in years. The quarterbacks are experts at dealing with crowd noise and rarely, if ever, appeal to the referee. The quarterback knows that if he does not get the play off because of the disturbance, that the crowd will get louder. Consequently, quarterbacks find a way to let the game continue, regardless of the noise. I am glad that you enjoy the column. I enjoy writing it, very much.

"N-word penalty". This seems like a PR nightmare in waiting for the nfl. The rule itself makes the league look good, but imagine the media shitstorm surrounding the first team to be penalized. I can't believe the players association isn't throwing a fit.
Obviously, it's wrong for players to say that on the field. But the offending team is going to make the player go through "counseling" or suspend him just to save face. It should have just been added to unsportsmanlike conduct.

I'd be interested to see how the NFL's performance metrics (things like TV ratings, game attendance, merchandise sales, etc.) have been impacted. Hardly at all, I imagine.

In recent years, the league has seen women grow to become over 44 percent of its fan base, with 60 percent of females over the age of 12 identifying themselves as NFL fans. Last season, 80 million women watched NFL games and roughly 310,000 women attended NFL games each weekend.

I think you're overestimating the female portion of the fanbase, which probably has a lot to do with why everything is playing out the way it is.
I'd be interested to see how the NFL's performance metrics (things like TV ratings, game attendance, merchandise sales, etc.) have been impacted. Hardly at all, I imagine.
I think you are underestimating the % of NFL fans that are women... This article is from November 2013:http://www.forbes.com/sites/aliciajessop/2012/11/26/how-new-marketing-approaches-helped-the-nfl-achieve-triple-digit-growth-in-womens-apparel-sales/ (http://www.forbes.com/sites/aliciajessop/2012/11/26/how-new-marketing-approaches-helped-the-nfl-achieve-triple-digit-growth-in-womens-apparel-sales/)
In recent years, the league has seen women grow to become over 44 percent of its fan base, with 60 percent of females over the age of 12 identifying themselves as NFL fans. Last season, 80 million women watched NFL games and roughly 310,000 women attended NFL games each weekend.
44% is larger than I anticipated. I wonder if there is a large portion of the fanbase that views this as a team issue, rather than a league issue.
Regardless, I see a lot of "outrage" on social media, but people still continue to consume the product.

Not sure how many of you have SO's who cheer for the Ravens, but it's never too early to start Christmas shopping...

I'm surprised they cut him this quick tbh.

Patriots will sign him in the offseason.

We need a power back to offset what Jamaal does. Go get him.

That was hard to watch.
The NFL is claiming they have never seen that video before, which I find hard to believe. Roger Goodell should resign and the Ravens should cut Rice.
Still looking at you Roger

I doubt this happens. Pressure would have to come from the owners and/or the players union.
-
He's cut - I just don't know what the video changes. Did they not realize it takes violent hits to knock a woman out?

Agree with ChiCat. I have no idea wtf anyone was thinking before hand, but I guess have visual evidence forced people to actually have to consider it and not just gloss over that part? :dunno:
-
It will be interesting to hear John Harbaugh talk tonight and whether they claim to have seen the video before it went public or not. It sounds like the NFL front office had seen it, but did they share it with the team or try to keep them in the dark?
-
The NFL has just announced that Rice has been suspended from the league.
A league spokesperson just issued a statement saying, "Roger Goodell has announced that based on new video evidence that became available today he has indefinitely suspended Ray Rice."
-
"became available today", lol.
-
yeah it's not like a witness came forward with a cell phone vid. this is the same security camera system that caught him dragging the gf out of the elevator.
-
I'm glad goEMAW uses the same logic as me. Rice should have been released and blackballed with or without this additional video. Goodell and the Nfl just look like lying, scumbag, idiots now.
-
Looks like Deadspin is following that angle pretty hard. I really hope they can prove that both the NFL front office and the Ravens had the video all along.
The Baltimore Ravens, who are still pretending they hadn't seen video of Ray Rice slugging his fiancée until this morning, despite evidence to the contrary, just announced in a one-sentence press release that they have cut Rice.
Update, 2:43 p.m. EDT: The NFL, also claiming it never saw the video, has suspended Rice indefinitely.

I kind of want to weigh in as a woman.
What he did was horrible, no doubt and if I was in that position, well let's just say I'd never be with a man who would put me in that position.
However, she did not want to press charges. This is a personal matter between them.
If Ray Rice was Joe Bag O'doughnuts, no one would have cared, it would have been a private matter and the guy's employer would have never even found out. Only his "celebrity" has made this an issue. I can see why the Ravens would have wanted to sever ties with a woman beater, due to the court of public opinion, but at the same time his wife made an excellent point.

With something like this actually on film, do the police even need her to pursue charges? I mean, it seems blatant. It is provable without her, it is on vid, it is def assault and battery, and it was in public. If this was a nobody, all else being equal, wouldn't he be facing charges right now?
-
Ray Rice has already made more than enough money to live comfortably. More money than 99% will make in their entire life. I hope he gets help for his anger and can in turn help others in the future. We live in a country of second chances and he will most likely play again somewhere.
I'm happy that he may help to serve as an example to the nearly 2000 roster and practice players, owners, execs, and countless staff that this behavior will not be tolerated and there are real consequences for their actions. I hope Goodell is next to go.
-

Yeah, CNN said this morning that contractually, he is still going to be paid $25M

They claim no special treatment. Although I don't believe that someone who does an aggravated assault rather than a simple domestic assault would get the same crack at their diversionary program.

yeah what sucks is that non-celebrities get to keep their job for knocking their wives out cold, not that Ray Rice lost his.

yeah anyone who says aggravated domestic assault is a personal matter between the two is pretty rough ridin' silly. It is a public matter, especially when it is done in public. We have laws in this country for a reason. Ray Rice is a threat to society.

A law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee to an NFL executive three months ago, while league officers have insisted they didn't see the violent images until this week.
The person played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: "You're right. It's terrible."

The one thing I enjoy about these types of events is how various individuals get all one uppy in displaying their "outrage".
The new societal norm is that if you're not completely outraged and demanding that heads roll, congressional investigations be launched and the entire impacted organization be overhauled from top to bottom than in some or fashion you are siding, sympathizing, or actually agreeing with the perp and their action(s).
It's hilarious.

If you forcefully restrain anyone and beat them to the point that they have cuts and bruises, then you're going to be in trouble with the law. When it's a physically imposing adult doing it to a defenseless child, then it becomes a really big problem. I'm a proponent of physical discipline, but you don't have to get anywhere close to leaving marks to get your point across.

it wasn't about a "whoopin" or discipline. not with a 4 year old.

Did I really just see a catch overturned by needing 5 minutes under the hood and because the ball spun slightly (like in a fashion similar to a field goal holder spinning the laces) in the receivers hand just prior to him hitting the ground?

There was some terrible playcalling by the Cowboys tho.

The Cowboys have 2 MVP contenders in Murray and Romo. However, given that QBs almost always win the award, I think Romo will be your 2014-2015 NFL MVP.
Why you ask? Despite managing a surgically repaired back, Romo leads the league's quarterbacks in completion percentage (70.3), yards per attempt (8.49) and passer rating (114.4). Romo has thrown for 3,406 yards with 32 touchdowns and only eight interceptions, leading the Cowboys to an 11-3 record in games that he has played.
Remember how the Cowboys/Romo always melt down in December and end up 8-8? Dallas is 3-0 this month in large part due to Romo completing 79.2 percent of his passes for 688 yards and 10 touchdowns with no interceptions.
Romo leads the NFL this season with an 82.3 Total QBR, while his Total QBR in the second half or OT is on pace to be the league's best in nine years. Remember how Romo can't close out games and is not clutch? Check out his digits in the 2nd Half/OT in 2014:
Comp %: 69.4 (Best)
TD-Int: 15-3 (Best)
TD pct: 9.4 (Best)
Total QBR: 91.1 (Best)
BTW, he just passed Aikman for all-time passing yardage.

Romo won't win the MVP, but he should. The numbers you posted speak for themselves. For those of you who like to rely on the "eye test" just go look at the Washington and Arizona games when Romo was out. If you take Rogers, Brady, and Watt off of their teams their record wouldn't drop nearly as much as if Dallas lost Romo.

I mean, its hard to believe I'm at a point where the most positive sports fan thing I have going is the Cowboys.
Granted, I don't really care about the Cowboys that much anymore. I don't go out of my way to watch and I don't own a single piece of Cowboys apparel.
But let me tell you, there was a time the Cowboys were the only team I really cared about. The earliest game I can clearly remember cheering for a team was in 1985 when the Cowboys played the LA Rams in the playoffs and Eric Dickerson ran for 200+ yards while the Cowboys got shutout. I remember joining the Dallas Cowboys fan club. I remember in 1989 when the Cowboys won one game over the Redskins on Sunday night football. I remember a great playoff win in Chicago before Barry Sanders ran roughshod over the Cowboys a week later. I got a Cowboys Starter jacket my senior year of high school and vividly remember the playoff run and Super Bowl victory and 2 more the next 3 years while I started at K-State. Eventually K-State surpassed the Cowboys, especially as Jones continued to put his input into the organization and bury it. The last 10 years I have followed them nominally at best and really am probably more of a Chiefs fan now.
However, the Cowboys now have their first playoff victory since 09 and I'm sure I'll be sorely disappointed in a week when they get killed by Green Bay, but right now I'm going to enjoy the moment.

-
Fellow #wedemboyz fans, Bailey can't make a FG suddenly then give up that? I felt good about that first half until the last minute or so.
And people really like grass more than turf? This field looks like crap.
-
That's the worst call I've ever seen. Probably.
-
But yeah, I understand it's the rule.
-
He took 3 steps and stretched the ball towards the pylon. That's a football move :curse:
-
I don't get it, they would of called him down when his elbow hit had been able to stretch it over the goal line
-
The rule is like 3 years old, shouldn't surprise anyone at this point.

Doesn't look like he had control. Jmo

Still pretty pissed that they ruled it not a catch. The part that bothers me is that the call on the field was overturned. If it was so conclusive that it wasn't a catch then why do so many people seem to disagree?
Had it been ruled incomplete by the official standing 5 feet away from the play then this situation would be much different.

The mechanism is horribly subjective, to the point that the refs would have been completely justified in ruling either way. FFS, the part of the rule that describes a "football move" contains "etc".

Yeah, the key difference between this one and the Calvin Johnson example is whether or not Bryant was making a football move (plus Johnson really only took 2 steps with the football). I think he was reaching for the pylon which should be a football move.
-
Oh well. It's been a long time since I could go through an offseason feeling optimistic about the Cowboys' future. They're built to be good for a while. So, there's that.
-
the "inconclusive evidence" thing is such a cop out.
idea: dont tell the replay booth (panel of 3 officials for EVERY game) what the call was on the field. have them vote on what they think the call should be and make it the call.
i hate how you have the prove the ruling on the field wrong. if they have to go to replay, it should mean the ruling on the field isnt adequate enough to make the right call. the rules need to change...

panel of 3 for every game meaning the same 3 officials do every game for the whole season for consistency.

The referee on the field makes the decision in the NFL. Gene Steratore did that all on his own yrsterday.

I also have a feeling Manning might be calling it quits. That leaves the Chiefs in great position the next couple years to get to the playoffs (if Manning is done).
-
The catch rule is stupid and needs to be changed

So the Broncos obviously have someone in mind for HC, right? No way they'd make this move without that. And I imagine John Fox getting the best job available, which would appear to be the 49ers.

Looks like John Fox is going to go to the Bears. Both coordinators seems to be out as well.
Denver's UFA List:
Demaryius Thomas, wide receiver
Wes Welker, wide receiver
Jacob Tamme, tight end
Terrance Knighton, defensive tackle
Rahim Moore, safety
Orlando Franklin, guard/tackle
Nate Irving, linebacker
Quinton Carter, safety
Virgil Green, tight end
Julius Thomas, tight end
Will Montgomery, center
Mitch Unrein, defensive tackle

Tom Brady is a bad person who's putting the equipment managers out on the street. These guys worked there 22 years before Brady bullied them to deflating balls and pretty much onto unemployment. Tom needs to pay and I'll be pissed if he gets anything reduced.

I've got to address the stupidity of the "analysis" making the rounds on twitter of this clip.
https://twitter.com/TheFBVine/status/632677403878420483
Richardson may not be a very good back, I'm not sure because I don't really watch the Raiders or the NFL. Much of the NFL running game allows for backs to use their "vision" and find holes because they used zone blocking schemes, however this plays is not one of them. There is clearly a pulling guard and any good back is supposed to trust the scheme and go with the puller. This play was designed to go between the right tackle and tight end with a puller, classic power football. However, the play is blown up because the tight end gets crushed. And, if Richardson had cutback to go between the center and right guard, the unblocked inside linebacker would have tackled him for no gain. You can see the ILB doing his job as he reads the pulling guard through to the back, any decent NFL linebacker will be able to come off his initial key if the back cuts back and make that play. The bashing of Richardson based on this play is just really stupid.

so the Rams are headed to LA. does this mean the Chiefs fanbase will grow big time?
-
God, I hope not. We don't need more Missouri trash!
-
Will clams be at the inaugural LA Rams game? I think so.
-
The NHL season begins as soon as the MLB season ends so most STL'rs won't even notice.
-
I don't get giving the chargers (and subsequently the raiders) the option to move. If the nfl was cool with, or wanted, 2 teams in LA, they should've voted on a plan that puts 2 teams there. Now essentially one guy, the rams owner, decides if he'll have a 2nd team in LA competing w/him because he can price them out of moving into his stadium.

He was shot once in the chest and 7 times in the back, after two bullets already struck his wife. I doubt self-defense is going to win this thing.
-
Did you see the video? Smith with the hit and run. Gun in his car. Both pulled over. Smith reaches in. I shot in self defense. He's got a decent case, whether it's true or not. The video shows it.
-
You forgot to mention the part where smith drives off and this other guy follows him. Self defense is going to be hard when he went looking for a fight
-
He followed him and called 911 to get the license plate number. They have it on record. I don't have a dog in the fight, but this guy isn't getting locked up for life.

Kinda hard for Smith to prove he knew a gun was in the glovebox. Only video shows him getting hit and then he chased him. From there all we know is he shot 10 bullets that hit human beings, killing one immediately and hitting a woman twice. You can't shoot someone because they reach into something, unless your a cop.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the state is charging him with manslaughter, so he wouldn't be going to jail for life anyway. But he'll be doing time.

I read something that the shooters dad was killed by police and one of the officers involved was having dinner with smith that night.

I'm very close to seriously jumping back onto the Cowboys bandwagon for the first time in many years. Dak and Zeke are a fun pair of young players, the best since the Trio.

At the end of the day, do you really care? Good for San Diego for not giving money to the owner. Hope Oakland follows suit and lets the owners or some other dumb town pay for a new stadium.

Funniest part about it all is now The Chargers are going to play the next 2 seasons in an MLS stadium that holds 30k
-
Agree with cRusty.
Not a big Cowboys fan, but Jerry Jones only "made" Arlington pay for the infrastructure around AT&T stadium, the roads and such, he didn't make them pay for the stadium itself.
I could be mistaken, but I think that deal has worked out well for the City of Arlington relative to the number of large events AT&T Stadium now attracts.
San Diego only dropped below 60K a game this year after years of really not doing anything. Otherwise they've averaged 65K a game for as far back as I care to look. Admittedly their %'s relative to number of seats available is on the lower side in the NFL, but the Murph has always been too big for that market and that demographic. Plus you'd have to say their attendance may have been impacted by the fact that a lot of seats at the Murph are crap, as it was originally a multi-purpose stadium. There's no indication that they couldn't build and fill a 65K seat dedicated football stadium at 90% plus of capacity on a regular basis in San Diego.
You can build a decent stadium, even in urban California and not need to spend a billion dollars.
-

I agree that its a waste to pay for a stadium, but I do care because I consider pro sports teams a part of the fabric of any big city, so it sucks to see that relationship undervalued by team owners. I mean I'm not going to lose sleep or anything
-
One really weird thing about the chargers moving to la is that I don't think anyone in la wants or cares for them to move there, in fact a lot of people dislike them bc they're in the same division as the raiders. At least people in la have some connection to the rams.
-

sure cities in CA will be fine w/o major league sports but for the rest of us in flyover country it means a lot.

Not really, they're pretty regional and the area around the stadium is pretty lame. People are much more connected to the A's.
Also I think all cities should stop paying for stadiums. If everyone stopped everyone would keep their teams.

the raiders are probably a bigger deal in fresno than in oakland.

This is where I'm glad the NFL and Cowboys/Chiefs are way down the list for how much I invest as a fan. I wanted both to win yesterday, but I had fun with it while tweeting a ridiculous amount of gifs. I probably couldn't do that with Cat FB/BB. Maybe with the Royals a little bit because of the long season, but not in the playoffs. My investment in those 3 teams is simply much greater and today I really don't care that much that both lost.
Of course part of my disinterest in the NFL and those teams comes from the last 20 or so years. Neither has really competed for a Super Bowl. The Cowboys have won 3 wildcard games and the Chiefs one, neither has made an AFC/NFC title game. Each has had sporadic seasons of success, winning divisions and scraping into the playoffs as wildcards, but even in their best seasons (this year for both really), they aren't a threat and are gone after one game when earning a bye. I suppose if either really competed for a Super Bowl appearance my interest as a fan would increase, but they are both pretty futile as NFL franchises since the mid 90s.
-

The 3rd & 20 pass with :03 left is going to sting for a very long time. Who knows what would have happened in OT, but that was a top 5 KITN play for me as a sports fan. Off the top of my head only Sirr Parker and the Romo botched hold are worse.
Just an awful couple of weeks as a 'Cats/'Boys fan. The Walk Chalk, Tech ending, and 3rd & 20 combination has me considering dropping sports altogether and taking up woodworking or something.
-
Yeah, the play were the Packers center tackled Irving way before Rodgers got the throw off was pretty rough. I have no idea why the LB didn't sprint to the edge to contain Rodgers though, he had way too much time (again). The right DE comes inside the tackle, the LB had to have contain from the start, but he pauses on the way. Just dumb.
I also have no idea why Zeke didn't get the ball more. I don't know why we spiked it on the last drive. The dumb substitution penalties in the first quarter. There was just so much dumb on the part of the Cowboys in that game.
And Rodgers was ridiculous.

I think that for me, I just watch way too much college football on Saturdays to invest much time watching the NFL on Sundays. I will watch a few Chiefs games over the course of the season, and I tune in for the playoffs. I'm just not invested enough to care that much when they lose, though.

The spike was inexcusable.

I have never seen the Butler substitution penalty before. 15 yards seems very excessive.

Wow, I didn't realize it was 22 carries either.
I saw the stat for the Steelers that said any team in the playoffs that had a back get 30 carries has never lost.

Bills trailed 35-3 in a playoff game to Houston in 2nd half and came back and won 38-35, but it wasn't the Super Bowl. This is an epic collapse/choke job

Julio makes ridiculous catch. 4:40 left in game, 1st and 10 at 22 yd line. Your RBs are ave 6 yards per carry. Run the ball or make quick safe passes, that have very small chance at sack or TO. If you don't get a 1st down, you kick a Extra point length FG try to go up 11 pts. With NE likely taking 2 TOs, there would be 3:35-3:40 left. Tom has 1 TO left and down 2 scores. Have it Mr Brady.
First the Sea OC makes stupidest call in SB history 2 years ago. Now Atl just pulls out the Choke job playbook and says here greatest QB of all time, we are going to help you out by being dumb idiots.

No but it sure as crap helps. Romo never won anything of significance. Racked up wins in a sub par division then tanked in the Playoffs. It's the Hall of Fame not Hall of Good.

In his era he was behind Brady, Manning, Manning, Roethlisburger, Brees, Rodgers, and probably Rivers, if not others. The 8th or 9th best QB of an era is not some hall of fame lock
-
Rivers?
-
Might as well throw Cutler in the mix too then.
-
Of all the stupid crap townie has said on this blog. This might take the cake.
-
I love the Cowboys. I love Tony Romo.
Tony Romo was a damn good but not great QB so no he will not be going to the Hall of Fame.

Romo is better than Rivers. He's not as good as Trent Green or Joe Flacco.

What on earth
-
Rivers?
Rivers is going to end his career probably top 6 or 7 in passing yards. Romo is 29th.
Also Rivers has won playoff games.
-
Carson Palmer's career was better than Romo also. Not even really a question.

Rivers?
Rivers is going to end his career probably top 6 or 7 in passing yards. Romo is 29th.

But Rivers is just so unlikeable. Tony seems like a guy that you could drink a beer with.

Aside from injuries Romo and Rivers have had very similar careers. Except TR had the weight of America's Team on his shoulders and Rivers played in front of a couple of dozen Chargers fans.

I understand that this is a board full of Chiefs fans, so it's not a surprise that few of you have an appreciation for what he accomplished since 2006. Although a few of you are clowning yourselves by mentioning guys like Green, Flacco, and Palmer.
Romo only played with the support of a top 10 scoring defense once (2009) and a top 10 rushing offense twice (2009 & 2014). It's no coincidence that those were also seasons the Cowboys went a combined 25-9 and won playoff games.
No other QB in the past 10 years did more with less than he did. The fact that he was able to go 78-49 as a starter despite the ineptitude of Jerry Jones as an owner/GM is damn near miraculous.
-
the weight of America's team
Because the media covers the Cowboys the same way as the other 31 teams

CF3, I promise to not muck up your Royals thread this year if you stop making a fool of yourself in here.
-
bro compare Palmer's and Romo's stats. They came in the league at the same time.
Romo has been a great QB, wish the Chiefs had him the past decade, but my point is he will be remembered as about the 8th, 9th, or 10th best QB of his era. I'm no NFL HOF expert but I don't think 1/3rd of QBs from an era should be in the HOF. JMHO Townie.
But the idea that Romo had extra pressure by playing for the Cowboys is really stupid. Its the NFL.

Do you think there is equal pressure on Royals and Yankees players?
Also your math is a little funny. For arguments sake let's say he is the 7th best QB of the past 10 years. That probably puts him in the top 3-5% of players at the most valuable position in the NFL. The Chiefs have started 11 QB since 2006.
Also, any given year there are an average of 45-50 HOF players on NFL rosters. How many times since 2006 has Romo been one of the 50 best players in the league? Probably at least 5 or 6.

If anyone is interested I started up a NFL Survivor group on Yahoo. If you don't know what that is you pick one team each week to win. If that team wins you move on. The key is you can only pick a specific team once during the whole season. It's actually a lot of fun.
If you want to join just sign up here:

It really gets old watching the Pats win games like they did today. Teams just not making plays and finishing off the Pats. Down 33-28, brady gets sacked, fumbles, NE OL recovers. Next play Brady goes deep. Hou DB jumped for ball. Bobbled it, brought it in, but couldn't hold on when he hit the ground. A turnover and it's ball game. So of course Brady completes for 26 on 3rd & 18. Next play 25 yd TD with under 30 seconds.

Townie, I think we (Cowboys) might just be average this year. :(

It's annoying watching Detroit. First they drop a TD (settle for FG). Then on 2nd and Goal from half yard line, they run play action pass, run off tackle, and another pass on 4th down. No points. Then 3 plays later, Pitt gets 97 yd TD on 3rd and 9.
Now, they have 1st & Goal from 4. Settle for FG

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Josh McDaniels' assistants, including DC Matt Eberflus, signed contracts with the Colts and are expected to remain with Indianapolis.
Talk about awkward. So, basically what's happening here, is McDaniels recruited these coaches to Indianapolis to be apart of his Colts staff, and then McDaniels backed out of the job, leaving Eberflus and others in limbo. According to Garafolo, Eberflus and others have already been in the building in Indy, breaking down film and whatever else, while they waited for McDaniels to officially be introduced. Now, the new Colts coach will be stuck with assistants he didn't hire. This whole situation is a complete mess with no real end game in sight.

Amari Cooper traded to Dallas.
No idea what Gruden is doing in Oakland.
-
A first round pick for Cooper is a pretty steep price.
-
That's awesome.
-
This is a trade between two mismanaged organizations. Gruden will constantly get in his own way. His ego is too high. Jones is the same way, but gets to blame his failures on his coaches.

oakland's tight end is fantastic, i hope he gets to go to a good team also

That's absolutely a great move for Oakland if they didn't plan to pick up the 14M cap hit from Cooper next year.

Not for the faint of heart, for sure.
When it's a tight spread under -3, I typically just pay a little extra and take ML to avoid the heartbreak of the back-door.

Fun NFL offseason already!
Sounds like Steelers/Bills had a deal in place to move Antonio Brown over, but Antonio pretty much said he wouldn't show up if traded to Bills. Bills pulled out of the trade. If Steelers can't offload Brown, he will most likely be sitting throughout the 2019 season.
Also - 610 would not shut up yesterday on how the Chiefs should bring over Le'Veon Bell. I actually don't disagree with them either.

That'll piss him off even more - he won't even be the first in that probably long and growing line.

I think this means that the three best receivers of my lifetime (ever?) have played for the Raiders. Moss and Rice were decent but not great in Oakland, I assume Brown will continue that trend.

new england's strength of schedule has been rightfully acknowledged as terrible, but lately it has come back to the pack a bit as they've played baltimore / philadelphia / dallas / houston in the past 4 weeks.
buffalo's however has been unbelievably garbage.
this is a super rudimentary way of looking at strength of schedule, but this is a summary of each team's opponents' combined point differential (while extracting the point differential of the team itself):
1. cleveland +414 <--- this is crazy. they've only played 3 teams with a negative point differential (nyj, denver, miami)
2. cincinnati +250
3. seattle +240 <--- seattle has been super lucky. 10-2 record with only a +36 pt differential. 5 wins by a total of 11 points
4. houston +196
5. miami +181
6. baltimore +178 <---- they're a spaceship. 10-2 with a +187 point differential, against a combined opponent diff of +178

Haha good question. Just looking around the coaching lansdcape, the coaches that are worth having probably aren't willing to work under Jerry.
Money whip Belichick or Sean Payton? lol right
Urban? Maybe
Eric Bienemy? I might have liked him having a chance.
Lincoln Riley - no
I saw Matt Rhule being mentioned as a candidate? No
Jim Harbaugh (assuming he's not going to KU)
Marvin Lewis - I'd be okay with him as the DC
So I guess McCarthy is meh but not that bad either.

I was mostly thinking about Kitchens or a college guy immediately jumping to the pros, particularly with Jerry's supposed fascination with Lincoln Riley.

Fair enough, my thoughts were more on someone like Bienemy or Greg Roman. Kitchens could coach for another decade and still stink.
I think Riley will eventually transition well.
-
I think Riley could be a decent coach, but think he would be a better hire for a team that sucks so he could learn some about the NFL as the team improves. Cowboys are already a team that can compete so I think McCarthy makes sense or someone with extensive NFL experience.
I think the Cowboys really should've gone after McDaniels. I know he is supposedly the heir apparent in NE but Brady may finally be declining, there doesn't appear to be a QB in the wings, it's the Cowboys, and you go to the NFC where you don't have to compete with NE often if you have some affinity for them. Denver was a bit rough but he was a lot younger and showed some upside.

Bill O'Brien is a decent coach but the worst GM in the NFL. The cardinals would've traded a pick just to get rid of Johnson's contract, absolutely absurd to get Hopkins in return. Meanwhile, the not as good Diggs goes for the better part of the Bill's draft.

So, that MNF game last night was a doozy. Highly entertaining. Among other storylines, the game ended on a safety after the Browns attempted roughly 69 laterals. Ravens won by 5. The line was Ravens -3. Bad beat. Also, Lamar disappeared into the locker room in the 4th quarter with "cramps". Then the backup got injured. But wait! Here comes Lamar running back from the locker room fresh as a daisy! Speaking of Browns...

Was just discussing with a friend, and we think it's a good move on the Rams part. We're both buzzed and idiots.
-
i mean i dunno anything and it's presumably all about valuing the picks vs the negative value of goff's contract but stafford isn't like, very good.
-
Stafford is 32. That trade is very puzzling to me.
-
The trade is about giving them a shot to win next year or the year after. Shortish window with Donald and Ramsey as elite players. I think it’s a good move, though wonder what it would have taken to get Watson instead.
-

Yeah. That’s true.

2 (!) first rounders + your previous 1st rd qb for 32 yr old Stafford is nuts. The rams already had like no draft capital

What is la's cap hit for this? I thought it was supposed to be like half the cap so it was basically impossible to trade Goff?

The Deshaun Watson stuff seems very odd and also very bad.
Yeah, he appears to be a real piece of work. Obviously no way they can get 13 different masseuses to fabricate claims. Very hard to believe any of them can "prove' this stuff, but I believe that their point is being made loud and clear. Deshaun Watson is a predator.

Yes, but very weird that all 24 are represented by the same lawyer. May all be above board, just seems odd.

i am no lawyer but the symmetry of Watson finding these women thru Instagram then this lawyer using it to announce the case to the public and finding additional victims is remarkable to me
-
Yeah, I also don’t mean to call into question the story... if it’s true, they all must have the receipts (IG messages) from him contacting them. It seems bonkers than if you were just getting massages you wound need to get them from literally dozens of different women. Just keep using the same one. On the other hand if you’re sexually assaulting them, you probably don’t get repeat visits.
-

I'm team #believewomen, but something with this is odd, especially the lawyer stuff. The attorney is also friends with the Texans owner, is no one interested in the potential conflict of interest here?
Also the only IG message I've seen from him was Watson apologizing if he made whomever sent the message uncomfortable.
-
The way that lawyer operates is suspect. Being friends with the owner is suspect but not necessarily in Watson's favor. I would be just as willing to believe the Texans owner was covering these things up and then decided to go scorched earth and stopped.

Agree. Coincidentally it all happens within about 2 months of the Watson / Houston situation imploding beyond repair.
-
It smells funny because none of them went to the police.
How it works out great for the Texans is they can now go to him say 'look, there's no market for you because of this thing" and then they don't have to trade him and he plays instead of sitting out.
-

This is the LEAST troublesome thing to me. Why would they go to the police? Police couldn't do crap. It's he said/she said, everyone knows that. All that would do is make life horrible for you and you alone.

Gruden deserved to get canned. But I think this serious of Tweets brings up a good point and yes, the owners run the show.
Dan Snyder is just gross. Substantial allegations against that organization. Big investigation. No public report of any kind.

Owners make the NFL super corrupt. They are seem smart enough not to put their thoughts in a company email (mainly because they probably have someone draft emails for them).
But yea, one of the shittiest things NFL owners do is make an entire city pay for a new stadium and move if they don't get their way.
This whole Gruden thing is sadly not a surprise. He has always came across as a superficial douche canoe.
Finally, congrats to Raiders for figuring out how to get out of a really shitty coaching contract.
-
Definitely intentional by someone, likely the owners. Goodell is the public villain but he just does the owners' will. They love him because he keeps them clean.

Who else would run the show in the NFL other than the owners? The comment below yours seemed to make a statement about the owners running the show which is confusing to me. The players are employees.

Patriots will pick him up
I don't know that he'll make it that low. His remaining contract is non-guaranteed so it's a low-risk flier for all these teams. Of course, I wouldn't put it past him to threaten to not report unless he clears waivers.

American sports television directors are the absolute worst. San Francisco gets in the playoffs on a walk off interception and instead of getting scenes we got a dozen replays of the same play, not a second of the players and coaches acting a fool on the field. Even as the referee was confirming the call FOX just kept rolling replays.

rough ridin' 49ers, man.

So chargers and raiders can conspire to tie and assure they both go to playoffs and Steelers get eliminated?

They can, but it's real tough to play for a tie in football.

The timeout was taken after the play clock went down and the game clock was under 40 seconds. The Chargers waited to call it so the Raiders could still knee it but the announcers didn't seem to understand it. I'm guessing it was mostly to give the Raiders another chance to think about just running it out. I think the Raiders would've let it run out if they didn't pick up enough yards. Good for them for kicking it.
-
Raiders kicking allowed them to avoid playing the Chiefs for a 3rd time. My guess is they preferred their chances against a Bengals team who has shown vulnerability against lesser teams.

So since Saturday...
Fangio out at Denver
Nagy out at Chicago
Zimmer and GM Spielman out at Minnesota
Brian Flores out at Miami

I can definitely see this too. Bengals smoked them as well but only once and a little less convincingly

The Chargers coach said he called a timeout to get their best run personnel in and they did change their guys on the field after the timeout. He was convinced, and I agree that they were going to run the clock down and attempt a field goal, no matter the result of that 3rd down play. FWIW the Raiders didn't change their formation or personnel after the timeout, they likely called the same play.

They had 11, but did change personnel after the timeout while the Raiders didn't.
Acho breaks it down perfectly, even though the text of his tweet was very misleading "There’s one player missing..." He's referring the the LB that should have been in given the Raiders personnel instead of the Safety that was subbed in after the timeout.
https://twitter.com/EmmanuelAcho/status/1480414433838919681?s=20
-
I'm not sure of the changes, but Staley said he subbed DL Linval Joseph for Murray. It could be that Acho is pointing to the role of LB being filled by a safety now instead of a direct substitution though

Yeah, I think you’re right on that.

One thing that is not being discussed is how risky it was for the Raiders to kick that field goal. Literally the only way they were going to miss the playoffs were if the Chargers blocked that field goal and ran it back. This wasn't a likely scenario but it was possible. If the Raiders let the clock run out on fourth down there was no possibility of a blocked kick.

I think if Jacobs doesn't pick up those yards, they let the clock expire. There certainly is some risk in kicking but there's also value in avoiding the Chiefs if you're trying to make a run in the playoffs. A win also looks better for the interim coach trying to keep the job. I would like to think there is some intangible value to going into the offseason at whatever point with a win in that game to build on but that isn't really quantifiable.
The analytics side probably likes letting time expire but the FOOTBALL guys probably like going for the win.

Incredible - Culley's cap space is tied up in Watson, who he can't play and he has no picks. He somehow drafts his starting QB in the mid-rounds and has the same record as last season. Insane that they would fire him

I had the same thought yesterday. He toiled in that mediocre-to-bad Detroit program for so long. Now, he gets an opportunity to shine in a better program. Happy for him, just as you are.
-
The fact that Detroit had mediocre seasons is a testament to Stafford. That organization has wasted so much elite talent.

I'm really getting the feeling Brady might retire. Some of his quotes are really hitting like he might be done for his family.
-
i find that almost impossible to believe. he led the entire league in passing completions, yards, and TDs this year. he was only sacked 22 times. his 3% sack rate was the lowest in the league by a good margin. it's not like he's getting Burrow'd out there

It's the appropriate thing to say about his family right now.
-
I think he would play if TB could bring back the same roster they had the last 2 years. They have some names headed to free agency, particularly Godwin, who will get a bigger deal elsewhere (or get franchised). If Brady doesn't think the roster is going to be top 5 in the league, I think he retires.

Maybe that is a good reason to hang it up? He doesn't get to see his oldest as much as he wants since he lives with his mom. Also sounds like Gisele wants him to be done.
Sounds like he would prefer going out on his own terms vs sucking really bad and being forced to retire.

Sean Payton retiring.

I see it being temporary. He wants to find a team with a QB.

I take that back he still had 3 years remaining on his contract.

Have we ever had a "hall of fame coach" who didn't also have a "hall of fame" quarterback? Seems like we have more than a few cases of quarterbacks who didn't have a singularly great coach. I'm not really willing to agree that Sean Payton is an offensive genius without seeing him work without a HOF QB.

Brees wasn't thought of as anything near a HOF QB until he worked with Payton.
I know I'm biased, but Andy Reid is the best QB coach that I've ever seen. You could argue McNabb and Mahomes are good enough to make anybody look good, but Foles, Vick, and Smith were coached to elite-level play.

:dunno:
He wasn't so good that it's inarguable. He led the NFL in passer rating one season and had his best seasons under Andy, although nobody would've considered him on the level of more talented elite QBs. There are probably 5 guys over the past 20 years that led the league in passer rating that won't go to the HOF. Two of those 5 were coached by Andy. It's not a flawless barometer but I do think it helps show the value of Andy Reid as a QB whisperer.

2013 foles
2012 rodgers
2011 rodgers
2010 brady
2009 brees
2008 rivers
2007 brady
2006 manning
2005 manning
2004 manning
2003 mcnair
2002 pennington
the 4 no-doubt HOF'ers (manning, brady, brees, rodgers) led the league in 11 of the 20 seasons
that leaves 9 seasons where a non-HOF'er led the league in passer rating.
if you want to count rivers/russ as HOF'ers, that leaves 7 guaranteed non-HOF'ers:
pennington
mcnair
foles
romo
ryan
smith
tannehill
also Andy didn't coach Foles the year he led the league in passer rating (not sure if you were implying that or not)

Vick doesn't belong in the group you have him in, he had three pro bowls before he was with the Eagles.
He had also just spent a couple years in Kansas, I think and gets some credit

The Washington Football Team will now be known as the Commanders. That's a shame. I liked the WFT moniker.

It will be bad for the plaintiff and cause, so I don't want this to happen but I can't control it. It will be wild and sadly hilarious if RP tries to join the class in Flores' suit.

Yeah its a disappointment. Almost feels like they only changed it because they expected there would be a bigger contingent of “they’ll always be the Redskins to me” and were upset people accepted WFT so quickly.

Problem solved!
McDaniel, who identifies as multiracial, joins the Pittsburgh Steelers' Mike Tomlin, Washington Commanders' Ron Rivera and the New York Jets' Robert Saleh as the league's only minority head coaches. The 49ers will receive two third-round draft selections as compensation under the Rooney Rule for developing a minority assistant who was hired for an NFL head coaching job.

I would of liked for EB to have gotten a chance as a HC but the Texans and Saints have to be 2 of the worst jobs out there right now. The saints are in salary cap hell for the next couple of years since they went all in during Bree's last couple of years. The Texans have always been a mess and just fired a coach after 1 year when he probably actually exceeded expectations, not to mention the whole deshaun watson cloud hanging over.
I did see that EB's contract with the chiefs is up so he is technically a Free Agent and can sign anywhere. I assume he will resign with the chiefs but maybe he goes somewhere else to shed the "product of reid/mahomes" label?
-
Feel bad for EB. He deserves a shot whether he interviews bad or not at this point. Teams will by default search for the negatives with him in any interview given his track record.

-
Yeah it would be ideal if he gets his feet wet somewhere and then comes back to take over when Andy retires or has a heart attack
That is in no way how it works in the NFL. Coaches only switch jobs as a retread or, in the case of newly minted Hall of Famer Dick Vermeil, decided to unretire.
-
Andy Reid isn't the youngest dude, why don't Chiefs fans talk about EB in terms of being the next Chiefs coach?
Have you heard any other names thrown around as the next KC head coach? I honestly haven’t thought about it myself but I have to think if you surveyed all KC fans for candidates EB would be in the top 3-5 on just about everyone’s list.
If your point is maybe EB isn’t seriously interviewing for these (like making major salary/control demands) in anticipation of taking over in a few years that makes some sense to me.
-
Barring a medical reason, Andy isn’t stepping down anytime soon. Obviously, the best thing for KC is for EB to hang in there as OC until Andy retires but that sucks for EB

New OT rules being proposed to allow each team one possession no matter what. Titans added an interesting wrinkle for their proposal which says the only exception is if the first possessing team gets a TD and 2 point conversion.
I don’t hate that idea but I don’t see how it would make the game more interesting. There would already be some incentive to go for two even if the other team was definitely getting the ball. The only benefit in my eyes is it seems more palatable for teams that prefer the current rule.

Also, if they only do it for the playoffs that is also acceptable, no one really cares about OT in the regular season

I think this is why you are seeing Stafford get this contract and teams moving on from QB’s sooner than they once did and seemingly paying crazy amounts (money & draft capital wise) for top qb’s in the league.
12.6% of the cap is the max a super winning qb has been paid during that championship year. So it could be interesting to see if that changes in the near future.

I actually take him at his word of trying to hand the team off when it has a chance to be successful. Particularly with Bowles taking over and not wanting him to have another experience like the Jets. Arians is pretty well-loved in the league and seems to be a people person above all else.

The activation of Sky is a pretty damning fact for sure. Tho, Miami claims Tua's back was bothering him or something like that.
Anyway, I hope the NFL gets to a point where the coaches and GM's do not decide whether a player is healthy or not. Take that completely out of their hands. The NFL has deep enough pockets to hire their own league wide medical staff.

The activation of Sky is a pretty damning fact for sure. Tho, Miami claims Tua's back was bothering him or something like that.
Anyway, I hope the NFL gets to a point where the coaches and GM's do not decide whether a player is healthy or not. Take that completely out of their hands. The NFL has deep enough pockets to hire their own league wide medical staff.
the nfl is already there regarding concussions. he was evaluated by an independent advisor

Weird

Maybe they can trade him for a qb? :dunno:
-
Trying to trade their qb all off season to deciding they are all in this year on that same qb is weird

TIL the Lions have a receiver whose first name is Amon-Ra.

Look him, his dad, and his siblings up, you'll get a kick outta that. They were all fairly noteworthy college football players.

Has Russell Wilson’s dangerwich been discussed? Old news but absolutely insane vibe on the ad.

colts just fired a well-regarded head coach in order to hire an espn talking head

Gottlieb?

His first game will be vs the raiders. Not a single coach on the colts staff has ever called a play in an NFL game apparently

The NFL dedicating Thanksgiving to John Madden is appropriate, wonderful and heartwarming.
If you say different, you’re a loser.

"After Packers Upset"
That was not an upset.
Also, what a dumbass. Party when you get home.
-
Yeah, the Dallas game made it seem like they stopped the slide, but Packers are done, they are hanging on to hope of a playoff by the thinnest margins
-
Probably no more alcohol on the team jet anymore. Thanks, Todd.

Yeah, I truly hope he's ok, but having to do CPR for that long, is not good, if the AED gives him a pulse he may make it, but time is such a factor

Ambulance waited in parking lot for his mom so she could ride with. I think that’s a good sign that he is stable.

Said he was in critical condition, also I think regardless no one is separating a mother from her child in that situation, I have my worries still

I read that doctors have confirmed there were zero underlying issues with his heart, just a complete struck by lightning type of freak occurrence. That said, obvs nobody would blame him if he decided nah I'm good

I just hope for him he thinks about it, which I'm sure he will. These guys are competitors and it's hard for them to back down and not want to give things another go (see Alex Smith). But that's literally a life altering saga. I know if I was him, stepping away would be the totally understandable response to it all. Life's short.

I knew people would play the result on this but I though it was a good idea, especially before the 49ers called timeout. People should be more concerned with the cowboys receiver who somehow didn't get two feet down on the play before, forcing the cowboys to try something so desperate.

Can't believe he picked that mess
I'm guessing they're the only ones that came close to his ask. Seems like they only did it because 5 other coaches didn't want the job.

Peyton will get them to 9-8

UT and Dallas are back in the same year, I think this is one of the signs of the end times.

If Dallas doesn't play Deuce they can lose all of their damn games for all I care.

well, eff. fun season though.

Kinda sus that sf fires the d coordinator when the offense blew a dozen blocking assignments and a handful of key coverages
-
These's no cap on coaching salaries, would sf pay belachick enough to handle the d? Would bill humble himself to win another trophy? I think the answer is yes/no
-
Oh damn would shanahan accept a demotion to win a super bowl with belichick as head coach?
I'm putting this on maybe, I believe he once said he would chop off his weiner to win a super bowl.
