How many draft picks did the 98 team produce? How many will this one?

As a whole, the 98 team was far more talented. It was probably the best defense the cats have ever had. 98 had, by far, the best o line in k-state history.

As for comparing Klein and Bishop, they were different players. Bishop had a cannon for an arm and was much faster than Klein. Klein definately understands the game better. Remember though, if ricky williams wouldn't have set the career rushing record that year, Bishop would have won the heisman.

Does anyone else find this hilarious? This was actually the order in which these stories appeared in the Star today.

Kansas State Football / Gary Pinkel is a terrible person

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7840035/missouri-tigers-football-coach-gary-pinkel-wife-announce-separation

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel says he has separated from his wife.

In a statement released on Friday, Pinkel says he and Vicki, his wife of nearly 40 years, separated earlier this year. He thanks friends and family for their support and says, "I would ask that you please respect the privacy of the entire Pinkel family during this difficult time."

The Pinkels met at Kent State, where he played football. They have three grown children.

Pinkel was hired as Missouri's head coach in 2001 after previously coaching at Toledo. He is 158-91-3 in 20 seasons, and 85-54 with the Tigers.

HawaiiCat does the family have any ideas on the cause or are they going to have to wait for the process?

They don't know right now. His brother came back from a chemo treatment and found him, already gone. His sister says there weren't any health concerns, and that this is a total shock. Family is devistated. I'll see if I can get info on where they are holding ceremonies so people can send a note. Fatty was Muslim, so keep that in mind if you decide to send a gift. I don't know what is acceptable and what isn't.

Wasn't he living in the Bay Area, or was he back at K-State? I think he was a fellow computer engineer. Will be missed, even though I didn't know him personally.   :frown:

He was still a grad student at K-State, but he had moved to the bay area temporarily to help his brother.

Updated above, but just in case you didn't see it...

Schwan spent the last few months of his life tirelessly working for his older brother, who is fighting cancer. The Alkhatib family has been dealing with the illness of one son for a while now, but the death of another is just too much to imagine. When remembering Fatty, think of his family as well.

Just got word that Shwan Alkhatib (A.K.A. Fatty) passed away yesterday. Nobody seems to know how it happened, but his brother found him already gone.

Schwan spent the last few months of his life working tirelessly to find doctors and treatment options for older brother, who is fighting cancer. Schwan put his own life on hold to move closer to his brother during the treatment process. The Alkhatib family has been dealing with the illness of one son for a while now, but the death of another is just too much to imagine. When remembering Fatty, think of his family as well.

They were more entertaining last year. I miss the Big 8 style play.

15
We were sitting right next to the bench and got to hear a lot of the conversations between injured players and the team doc. Irving looked like he was in a lot of pain. He kept grabbing the middle of his chest (ribs/sternum) and grimacing. He walked to the trash cans at the tunnel entrance several times to lean on them and did a lot of spitting. It looked like he wanted to puke but it just wasn't happening. He didn't look good until carrying the championship trophy around the arena after the team had gone into the tunnel.

Gipson sprained the outside of his ankle. They taped him up and he went back to the bench. He was hurting for the rest of the night though and made a lot of pained faces.

Jamar cramped up near the end of the game and coach yelled at the team doc about it. It sounded like he was complaining that the players hadn't hydrated enough.

I talked to President Schulz after the game. He said the team is flying back tonight. They have layovers in LA and Denver before getting into KC. They are driving from KC to Manhattan. Sounds like the trip from hell to me. Good thing they don't play again till Saturday.

So exactly what convo did you hear?  Didnt really see anything in there that couldn't be made by any non-near-bench observer.

Also.. was Irving holding the trophy above his head or below?  And why wasn't he in the tunnel with everyone else?
h

He was hugging the trophy and never got it above his chin. He was the last one off the floor and was walking by the crowd to show it to the fans.

Frank is scouting the game from the tunnel. Looks bored and unimpressed.

We walked innto the arena with xavier players. I told them "no fighting this weekend gangstas". Got no reply. First observation, more cats fans than any others right now. Prob close to 50 of us. Clemson sucks.

What kind of breakfast are we talkin'? Even though I light my cubans (not the Frank kind, I don't believe in violence) with $100 bills, I'm wouldn't pay $30 for a continental and a 5 minute chit chat with Vulture on principle.

It sounds like it's just a come eat in the same room with the team. I can't get a guage on how much interaction we'll be allowed. I was just wanting a pic of Frank staring down my six year old. I may have talked the wife into it. Problem is, if I go, all will have to go too. My dad is a retired prof at K-State and my mom and wife are 2 time alumni. I'm trying to make the argument that we need to immerse the kids in the K-State culture. We will move back to Saint Louis eventually and I don't want them deciding to go to Mizzou or Illinois.

Full family would be $120. My parents are coming too, so we're looking $180. Maybe I can talk the folks into giving me the breakfast for Christmas.

The team arrives tonight in about 2 1/2 hours. I just got my tickets for Thursday ($10 per for GA). It's sad, they're not expecting as big a crowd for B-Ball as was there for the Volleyball Tournament last week. They sell that place out (10,000) for women's volleyball. We were all invited to a breakfast with the team on but they decided to charge $30 per plate. Not doing that one.

Weis spent last season as Florida’s offensive coordinator — it’s very likely you’ll hear more cheers over this hire coming from Gainesville than Lawrence — after one year out of the game....

...During his lone season at UF, Weis came under intense criticism from Gator Nation for the underwhelming performance of his offense in 2011.

The comments are nice too. Florida fans are happy about this.
