Also oscar won't be legitimately recruiting five stars. He isn't cut out for that no matter who he has on staff, nor do I imagine he has any real interest in doing so.
Staff defiantly has to have a big in, to take the chance.
Yeah, there are always exceptional circumstances where it could happen. The problem with those guys though isn't just the competition, but the waiting. They force staffs to dick around while other lesser, but more realistic kids might decide to go elsewhere. Nobody likes to be slow-played or second-fiddled. oscar and co. aren't good enough do that against other power conference shools who make those kids a priority. No non-blue bloods are. Very risky.
And the 5 star guys are almost always 1 and done so you have to turn around and replace them in 8 months.
Really, unless Barnes really gets rolling again at UT, I think the 3star Webercats will have no problem competing in the upper half of the league and with occasional runs at the Big12 with some luck (a DITR like Foster, a slightly down league, a bunch of upper classmen, etc).
