Kansas State Football / Re: 2023 Dr pepper still in reach?
« on: November 12, 2023, 08:01:27 PM »
I think osu and/or ou still need to win out for scenario two to hit

If either of them lose they are out at 3 losses.  If one wins out they would be in a three way tie with us and UT, both four way tie.  We would have a better record against common opponents than anyone in a 3 or 4 way tie. The only scenario in which we win out and don't get to Arlington is UT wins out, OU loses another, and OSU wins out.

If OU or OSU loses and we're in a 2 way tie with the other, we lose the tie. Need it to be a 3 way with OU/OSU (plus KU win vs Cincy), or 4 way with UT/OU/OSU, or both OU and OSU to go 6-3.

Camden Beebe is still the jewel of this class imo.

I know! That 60 yd flick off the back foot while rolling left... dreamy stuff.

This is insane, never seen anything like it.

Quick point of parliamentary procedure here....we have indeed seen way better as a matter of fact.  Having said that, we will allow this to proceed.

I mean it's debatable, which is insane. Tang is exciting but these assistant pulls are beyond elite.

Kansas State Football / Re: How good is Will Howard???
« on: October 14, 2020, 11:36:50 AM »
Will Howard throws much better between the hashes than to the outside.  From the one pass in the Arkansas State game to the Moore/Wheeler throws on Saturday, he has been solid there.  Not sure if there are larger conclusions to be drawn from it.
Throws to the sideline are harder.

and require more arm strength or they're going to get pick 6'd. I think howard looks perfectly capable of being fine. his arm strength seems lacking though. probably related to the "touch" that 33 notices.

He had the nice quick out to Bash on 3rd down vs TT, but I bet the coaches were limiting out routes with TCU due to the chance of pick-6s. He is throwing the seam well. The touch throw to Deuce that went for 45 showed great arm strength- running backwards to his left, threw off his back foot while being tackled, and effortlessly lofted it 25yds right over the LB and beneath the safety. That play has me incredibly excited about his ability.

It's not possible for the virus to mutate to a less deadly form?

sure that's possible.

but the doctor has no evidence that has happened, he's just pulling at random hair-brained hypotheses to explain a phenomenon that really needs no explaining (his patients are less sick for the same reason that the average age of coronavirus cases in the us has dropped) despite not having any supporting evidence and tossing those to the popular press who distort the hypotheses even further.

keep in mind that in order for a mutation to have any meaningful effect, it not only has to come into existence, it also has to spread at a faster rate than other virus.  this at a time when the incidence of the virus has been dropping rapidly in italy, movement with italy has been controlled and borders have been closed.  the incidence of the virus in all neighboring countries has also been rapidly decreasing.

even granting that a beneficial mutation exists in this guy's hospital (no evidence for this exists), and granting that it has spread locally (no evidence for this exists), what mechanism could possibly promote the spread of this strain of virus to other areas where the virus is already widely present and then promote the new strain outcompeting existing strains already present?

it's a farce and the popular press promote it because they're just completely scientifically illiterate.

Makes sense.  TY for the explanation.

but in general, viruses mutate to become less lethal, since their only purpose is to spread, it is evolutionarily beneficial not to kill your host. That's partly why the H1N1 that caused the spanish flu is still in circulation but has a much lower mortality rate. I'm not a virologist and don't know what the typical timespan is for mutations to have this effect, but I'd assume it would take longer than 6 months.

Whether off the court or on, what are your biggest concerns about Bill Self's program?"... then they proceed to mention K-State 0 times throughout the remaining article.  :shakesfist:

Rooting for ASU bc 1) Herm is a psycho and I love it, and 2) if Cal loses we'll move ahead with a win.

How much of the banter when opposing teams mascots is improvised? Like I would imagine you guys would probably shoot a couple emails back and forth about some hilarious gags you were planning or do you guys just go out there and wing it?

completely winged it when I did it, didn't even talk to the guy. I took that code of silence crazy strict. Only time things ever backfired was 2008 @ Colorado, before the game I went through the K-State section to pump up the crowd, and there was a CU fan sitting right in the middle. Middle aged dude. I suavely lifted his ballcap, then sat right in front of him with his cap draped over my ear. He immediately shoved the crap out of me and started yelling crap. The K-State fans were all like "HEY THAT'S WILLIE CALM DOWN" and I quickly gave back his hat and non-verbally apologized. Should've figured CU fans are the worst.

Thanks!  Also;

1) Was there like a cool Willie initiation were you had to do crazy crap and got hazed by the 'older' Willie's?
2) Please tell me there's a cool Willie handshake that only you guys know.
3) Did you ever pick up a chick (or dude) at one of the events you did?  And if so where you able to bang her/him with the Willie head on?

4) Was the loser of the group the one designated to do Women's VB or the stupid parties?

1) no
2) no
3) I got hit on by drunk tailgaiting coeds quite a bit, my butt pinched a bunch. One pretty smoking gal whispered in my ear to meet her at so and so.  I was too much of a chicken crap to follow through on any of that.
4) kinda. But sometimes the side gigs where the most fun. Games could get pretty tedious (especially those football years, back to back no bowl). I did get tipped a couple times once at a wedding and once at a varney's photo shoot where they let me keep some merch.

I have some insight on this. I was a Willie in 2008 and 2009. It was interesting. I was a freshman/sophomore those years. My freshman year there was only 1 returning Willie and I was one of 6 new guys, so there were 7 Willies that year. Sounds like a ton but we did every sporting event: football, M/W bbal, vball, baseball, plus weddings, birthday parties, athletic booster events, open house, enrollment/orientation, etc. So we were all fairly busy.

My first year was a blast. Our "boss" was the marketing branch of the athletic department, and with that we were able to be pretty creative with skits and such. My favorite skit was the first year when Willie beat Micheal Phelps olympic record for golds by winning like 20 different events, it was the home opener vs North Texas, and I was actually the guy tackled at midfield after stealing Willie's medals (the guy the used to get tackled was always another Willie). I think I got a mild concussion from it but it was worth it (glad I don't have a seizure disorder :horrorsurprise:)

The second year we were transferred over to the cheer team and it was not nearly as fun. We had less access to the pregame schedule, skits where cut down, we had to go to cheer practices sometimes, it was a drag. I got cut after 2 years bc I discovered beer/got too fat/dipped out on a lot of stuff the 2nd year to focus on grades and partying. Was a little butt hurt at first but in retrospect I think it was good for me.

On the point of a black Willie, the answer I got a lot when I asked (I don't think any tried out my 2 years) was that there is only 1 Willie, so all the Willie's needed to look similar. I always thought that was dumb/racist, esp since there was a 5'8" guy and a 6'3" guy in the group when I was doing it. But they take that pretty seriously, Willie could never be at two events at the same time.

Anyway if you have any questions about it, I'd be happy to answer.

Did it ever freak you out that you were sucking in germs from the other 6 dudes that put on the Willie head?  I mean I'm sure you could spray it with Lysol or something but that would probably only kill about a tenth of the filth that had to be in there? :Yuck:

Ya that thing was nasty. It was a hockey helmet with 10lb of foam and felt. Made your neck hurt like crazy after wearing it for hours on end. There was a built in fan that didn't work and just made it heavier.

I see two possibilities:
1. tons of mistakes >2 turnovers and we lose by 10
2. execute well, no turnovers and win by 14+

I'm going with #2
