Central Kansas starts at Highway 75, I can live with the Barber-Smith line as the beginning of Western Kansas, but I think it starts a little farther east. Think mid-point of the Harper-Jewell corridor, so basically Hutch is the Kansas City of the border.

Also, guys, Kansas isn't in the Midwest. It's a western state. Mocat is one of the only white midwesterners on this board.

i think it's a diagonal line that passes somewhere around the columbia/jeff city area on it's way from the ne corner to the sw corner.

I live 15 miles from the Colorado line down here in SWKs.    Further out than Dodge City or even Garden City.

I'm stunned more people don't recognize this.  So is everything south of hwy 50 in KS. If it takes longer than 5 minutes to get a coke at mcdonald's,  you're in the south

Guys, I'm pretty much a KS Geography expert due to my bloodlines so let me settle this for you.

But first some background to backup my points.

Dad's Family - Western KS folk (Thomas County)

Mom's Family- Central KS folk (Riley County*)

Born/Raised - Eastern KS folk (Johnson County).

Rough dividing line goes

Eastern KS- Topeka and everything east.

Central KS- Everything between Hays and Topeka

Western KS- Everything west of hays

*Did you know that ben ji and Jordy Nelson related? Yup, my grandma and his grandma were cousins. Shout out to my great aunt Irene for pointing this out a couple years ago.

Denied the denial. Pratt, Russell, Great Bend, Medicine Lodge- All W. Kansas, all east of Hays.

I agree with Joda. Cheyenne Bottoms (just north of Great Bend) is the last reliable natural (sorta) water area.

I think that before the Colorado Water Pirates drained the arKansas river, Great Bend was probably central kansas but it is now hard to argue that Great Bend isn't Western Kansas. Anything west of Great Bend is clearly Western Kansas like Lacrosse, Larned, Greensburg, Russell.

Anyway thanks to oscar for making us twiddle our thumbs and argue about Kansas Geography instead of something fun...... :Carl:

Well who in the world would have thought that all these people from west of Manhattan would try to say that there was a Central Kansas ( ) and that they were from it?

The northern half of Kansas doesn't even have a central Kansas!

When I was close to the western KS line, a huge mental boundary to Western Kansas was leaving the reach of Wichita radio stations. So like, Pratt was the first Western Kansas town, which pretty much supports MiR's Barber to Jewell county line assertion. Further north, past 135/Salina became western KS. North of Salina? who cares

Having grown up in one of the small towns mentioned, canco. It was western Kansas. College in Eastern Kansas was nice.
I think this yoman guy is on to something....
