I don't know what some of you are doing with the Texas and Alabama jobs.  They are for all intents and purposes the same job.  Yes, Texas is absolutely better but all of the things people trumpet that makes Texas great, Alabama has the same elements.

They both have all the money a basketball program needs. They both are football schools in football states which leads to not nearly as much pressure on the basketball coach. They both play in conferences with one blue blood and a bunch of other schools that can easily be passed. They both have close access to many talented players. Alabama recruits Georgia, Florida,  Mississippi, Tennessee, and Louisiana just as easily as UT recruits east and west Texas.

If he's offered both UT is the better choice because they're more ready to win now but Alabama isn't nearly the pit some of you think it is. The $3 million was a starting point, Parrish said he wouldn't be surprised if they went to 4 or 5 for 3Gs.  He also said that Alabama will commit to improving facilities. Mike Slive apparently sent a directive to the schools outlining why it is important that they take basketball seriously. Finally Parrish said that Nick Saban will be actively involved in the bid for Marshall. He thinks Gregg will leave WSU for Alabama but will take UT if it's offered.

Very interesting if true. Can't see Marshall staying where he is his entire career.

On his podcast Parrish mentioned 7 years $28 million.

The fact that Texas can easily win now is a pretty major difference.

Of course, but the point is that Alabama isn't some dog.  The advantage UT has now is almost solely attributable to Barnes. Also most competitive guys will absolutely think they can win at Alabama quickly.

Greg is now in the spotlight.

He has been for the last two seasons. He wanted UCLA but they wouldn't wait for WSUs final four run to end.  Last year there wasn't a job good enough or a marginal job willing to pay him $4 million a year.

I also want to talk about what Mississippi State did to Rick Ray :opcat:

Yes they were no good after his third year but when he took over the entire team was in Mississippi State's drug program. Pretty tough to get a team cleaned up, improve the grades and improve the apr, and win at a place like Mississippi State. So he cleans up the program and they repay him by working with Adidas to work out a deal with another coach while he still has a job. Also eff Ben Howland for doing that to another coach.

I wish the BCA actually had some power because this is the type of bullshit they fight against.

I didn't know that stuff about Miss St when Ray got there. He did take over a program that won a little bit under Stansbury though and Ray's teams were awful. It would be hard to be patient with very little sign that the program was getting better.

And if Alabama is truly willing to double Gregg's salary, he should absolutely listen. What is the max Wichita will go to keep him? $2 Mil? $2.5?

Not sure about the full story on Stansbury, but he "retired" after a 21 win season. The program may have had some off the court problems but it was still winning. Ray lost 19+ games all three years.

I have no idea what WSU's athletics budget is but driving that entire budget is hoops so I have a hard time seeing how they wouldn't make more of an effort to keep him.

I agree. I'm pretty sure I said he should consider Bama if Grant had improved the program and went for greener pastures. I don't think Barnes should be fired, because you're absolutely right that they are comparable to schools like Bama and LSU and he has blown them out of the water.

Yeah, I don't know either. I'm sure MIR is correct that the program was a mess when he arrived, but I would think Ray could make more push than he did in 3 years. The guy lost 62% of his games (75% in conference) and beat 5 total Top 100 teams over his first 3 seasons.

Also, I'm sure Stansbury is the probably the ultimate Bruceketball nightmare.

If the BCA wants to make sure no black coaches ever get hired, they should cry racism every time a black coach is fired for failing miserably.
