What ever happened to a little diversity on offense?
« on: October 21, 2017, 09:18:34 PM »
I get that Delton is limited as a young QB, but when did we have to just concede to tipping our hand every single play?  Is it that hard to simply run off tackle? Can we not execute a simple under-center snap?  Is a speed option something that just can't work in today's game?  We have a stable of running backs and speedy recoevers. Can we not find a way to get them the ball in space?

Our offense is boring, predictable and tired. I'm tired of it.

I mean, is a simple fullback lead to difficult to execute.

They did that cool fake deep pass designed run play again.

And I thought there was much better play calling this week. Granted they were scared shitless to throw after the interception, but the fact that we hardly trailed made them seem at least somewhat competent/confident. Play calling honestly seems like one of the least concerning things about yesterday.

I agree with this.

Also, we went from dominating the line of scrimmage up front in the first half to getting beat pretty badly up front in the 2nd half. Plus, OU's defense simply isn't nearly as good as TCU's, which also helped. Either way, in the 3rd quarter OU owned us up front and that was huge.

Also, the fumble on our 2nd drive was very costly, maybe more costly than the INT late in the 2nd quarter. At the time we were moving the ball at will and almost certainly would have had a TD on that drive, at the least a FG. I know we forced a 3 and out right after, but we had to win the TO battle to win. We essentially finished even in TOs after OU's botched snap on the punt in the 4th, we had to be plus to win this one.

The speed difference between OU and us was extremely apparent, especially with our defense.

I agree that in the 1st half, that 1) the OL and entire offense blocked well, 2) play calling did keep OU a little on their heels.

Barnes got his 3rd carry, a 19 yd run. After that, until Barnes 4th carry in the 4th Qtr, this is who ran the ball -
Delton 21 runs, Silmon 4, Dimel 3, Warmack 1, Zuber 1

Delton had 11 carries for 23 yds in the 2nd half (I'm not counting the 19 yard loss that he got on final play). None of those carries was a QB sack.

I could tell after the 2nd play in the 2nd half that we weren't going to run at will in the 2nd half. Our D had no answer for OUs offense in the 2nd half. However us getting 1 First down in first 3 drives of 2nd half was critical.

Ou gave us a big break with the botched snap. Prior to that Ou had run 35 plays to just 11 for Ksu after the break

i think my "favorite" play from yesterday was a spread option look where delton handed to dimel on a play to the wide side of the field. we were around midfield and dimel got swallowed up for like a 3 yard loss. not his fault. just wtf? why give your fullback a carry to the wide side of the field on a long developing play. just so so over this staff.

This stood out to me the most.  So many times we had a defender in position to make a tackle for short gain but were repeatedly beaten.

We simply don't have the horses on D.

Last year we had the Defensive POY, Defensive Newcomer of the Year, Defensive Freshman of the year, and a first team linebacker currently in the NFL. :dunno:

We've got talent and decent speed everywhere except LB. (Our LB's are bad)

yeah, our linebackers offer nothing right now.  They are sooooo slow they don't disrupt anything.  They do OK playing between the tackles but NEVER cause negative plays.

The safety's were awful and slow too.

True.

The last play is a great example. We have a completely free run through and are in position to make a tackle for 4-5 yard loss. That would have set OU up at the 31 or 32 yard line for a 46-47 yard game winning FG try, but we all know what happened.

The play calling against OU was fine but Dana lost this fan base a long time ago and he isn't winning anyone back. That 4th & 1 call against TCU was a bridge to far.

I started wanting Dimel gone when him and #familyfullback started pushing out Baby Gronk. He was one of the only freshman that played. Everyone else has to earn their keep in the program but one guy.

Hey, let's not be forgetting we actually have a gay guy too.

Maybe a rainbow alternative uni for this Sat. Seems only fitting considering who we're playing!

Why is it fitting because we are playing KU?
