Is "K-State" Patented?
« on: July 27, 2017, 01:10:36 PM »
As some may have heard, Ohio State filed for exclusive usage of "OSU" in February.  Oklahoma State has until the end of August to petition the request.  Otherwise, Oklahoma and Oregon State will no longer be able to use the moniker.

When I google KSU, the results are Kansas State, Kent State and Kentucky State.....  But if I search "K-State", the results are exclusively Kansas State.  Did the university patent the moniker?

I guess it's all covered under intellectual property law.

trademark.

patent is protection for technology, process, technique, etc.

copyright is for work of art, literature, song, movie, etc.

So that's why we had to type out "ksu.ksu.edu" in web and email addresses way back in the wild west days of the internets?

"K-State" is a register trademark of Kansas State University.

"KSU" is a registered of Kent State University. Kansas State is allowed to use "KSU" because they can prove use of the mark prior to the trademark registration.

I've got exclusive use to it in the state of Oklahoma (although maybe this should be filed under the Husker thread)

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

"K-State" is patent pending.  We're taking it to Shark Tank next season.
