Dear KU fans, alumni, students, faculty, administrators, and athletic staff,

We at goEMAW are spearheading an awareness initiative throughout the state of Kansas over the coming weeks and months.

Our goal is to ensure the long term (READ: Forever) conference synchronization of the Kansas State University and the University of Kansas.
Maintaining the alignment of our two top Kansas institutions in a single conference helps to ensure the most effective use of our collective state resources.  That's why we are leading a grass roots movement to inform all Kansas legislative personnel, at all levels, about the necessity of legislatively mandating that KSU and KU forever remain in the same conference.

Obviously, we understand that the consequence of this initiative is that both institutions are relegated to "mid major" status.
We are aware that there may be some opposition to such a notion, particularly amongst certain small, but vocal, "fans" of the University of Kansas.  Much of the KU fanbase is made up of a non-voting, uneducated populous that is unaware of the primary academic missions of our two flag-ship universities.  However, we are certain that when the great weight of the VOTING Kansan voices demand their legislators ensure the conference synchronization of KU and KSU, they'll hear our message loud and clear.

Keep KU and KSU together, or fail to be re-elected.

We have already enjoyed tremendous support from soon-to-be Governor Sam Brownback (KSU alumnus), and the senior Senator from Kansas, Pat Roberts (KSU alumnus). We implore each of you to join our initiative and tell your legislators to "Keep KU and KSU together."  We may both be mid majors, but we'll be together, and that's what matters most.

Why don't we use this opportunity to ditch the only team that we can't beat in basketball?

BEcause that same school is one of the few we can beat in football, and every other sport.

Great question Chum, I'm glad you asked it.

This is about ensuring the mutual "success" of both of our flagship institutions.  The most important facet of this important initiative is to properly define "success."  It means the enhancement of our ability to ensure the enrichment of our student athletes.

Now, an almost certain result of this initiative is that KSU and KU enter a conference with a decreased emphasis on just "winning" games, and instead focus more on educating young people.  Some call this a "Mid Major" mindset, we call it the RIGHT mindset.  A natural outcome of this is that KU will, no doubt, suffer some perceived decrease to their Men's basketball tradition and standing on the national scene.  With that will come a regression of KU's men's basketball program to the mean of college basketball standards and accomplishments....In short, they'll "win" less.  As a result, KSU will be positioned to "win" their fair share of games in the series, though that is beside the point.  Although, I'll wager that most REAL KU fans will not be bothered by this in the slightest and will instead cherish their reinforced commitment to the high educational standards that make them so proud (deservedly so).

Everyone is going to "succeed."  Everyone is going to "win."

Thanks again for your question, Chum.

Go State of Kansas!

My problem with this proposal is that it also will bring Wichita State up to equilibrium, which isn't good, because aside from TheShocker* they don't deserve to have nice things

I understand, and share, your revulsion of this idea.  However, due to various aeronautical mechanical issues, they do not have a football team and will therefore remain forever inferior.  They simply won't have the resources that schools that fill their football stadium with 25K+ fans-a-week will have.

Great News!

I have reason to believe that General Richard Myers (K-State Alumnus), the former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is "on board" with this as well.  Obviously, this is encouraging news, given General Meyers close relationship with giant Kansas employer Boeing Corporation (and their considerable political clout in this State).

Slogan, no slogan...the real point here is that this IS happening.  Our voices are being heard, and KU and KSU will never be apart.  Ever.

Shouldn't we have legislation in place to keep us and our true rivals Texas in the same conference? America wants needs the CTR.

Clearly this is desired by BOTH K-State and UT fans, but the aTm crowd is still bitter about our meat judging victories.  Good idea though, let's keep this "juices flowing" on this very important topic.

I'm sure UT will do some sort of 2 for 1 deal like they do with most other MIDs.  Maybe if we're lucky we can get a 3 for 2 or something.  I'd take it, honestly.

Some of the posters on your rival's board seem to think that if MU and NU bolt, Texas will dissolve the conference and form a new "Western Alliance" conference that would look like this:

West:

* USC

* UCLA

* Stanford

* Cal

* Oregon

* Oregon State

* Washington

* Utah

East:

* Texas

* Texas A&M

* Oklahoma

* Kansas

* Colorado

* Arizona

* Arizona State

* BYU, Texas Tech or Iowa State

Which other board are you referencing?  It must be made up of complete fracking idiots, because there is no way KU and K-State aren't in the same conference.  If you'd care to debate that issue, please be prepared to specifically name politicians in the State of Kansas who expressly support your position, as I have above.

You got a soon-to-be governor? Nope.

The senior US Senator from the state?  Nope.

A majority of graduates in both the house and senate of the state legislature?  Nope.

If you enjoy wasting your time concocting fantasies, perhaps you'd consider giving me a breakdown between who would win between the Borg and the Empire, it would be more entertaining and equally as plausible of becoming reality.

Phog.net, frankj reposting from some dude on a UT site.

fwiw, the politicians in the state have to listen to their KU constituents too and can only do what they can do to protect the state's assets.  if they think that KU has more to gain than K-State has to lose then they'd be foolish not to move forward with the plan.

Hopefully this will be delayed until Brownback is governor. He's totally EMAW and would never let us get fracked like this.

Got to agree w/ this.  There is absolutely no possible way KU ever competes at a mid-major level, or belongs to a conference not tied to the BCS.  Too much money, too much tradition, too much alumni contributions, too much of a national interest to all of a sudden be the best program in the C-USA.

K-State on the other hand....

Lot of chowder heads in this thread.

Have any of you ever met General Myers?  Do you have any idea what the chairmanship of the Joint Chiefs of Staff means?  That guys didn't watch his buddies die in a pool of bloody mud and entrails to have his Alma Mater get jobbed by a rag tag bunch of KU attorneys and property developers.

One the largest suppliers of military hardware in the world has operations in this state, a firm whose relationships with military leadership are valued above all other "assets."  Guess who leaves the state of Kansas if K-State and KU are broken up?  Boeing.  They are held onto by a shoe string.   In addition to the 2586 Boeing employees in Kansas, the company also works with 464 suppliers/vendors around the state.  You want to break up KU and K-State, well that's going to make a certain ally of Boeing very unhappy.  You think Boeing won't pick up the phone and make some calls to Kansas legislators?  You think those legislators want to jeopardize all those jobs?

K-State might as well change it's name to the the "real WEST Point."  Done deal, boys.

This would be alot more interesting and relevant if Mulally was still at Boeing.
