We have any HR peeps in here? mrs yla is not planning on returning to work after the bambino is born (she hasn't told work that yet though). How does her maternity leave work if that's the case? I believe she gets around 6-8 weeks and 70% of her paycheck during that time.

I'm assuming this is a state by state or probably company by company type decision though.

FMLA (federal law) protects you so your work cannot fire you during maternity / paternity leave, although you may have to jump through some hoops to protect yourself (like submitting "proof of birth" to a third party claims administrator if they require it, which is unbelievably frustrating).  However, I do not believe it requires your work to pay you for your time off.  Mrs. Catastrophe recently did this and had built up enough sick leave to get paid for the full amount.  Her work told her that they are apparently required to pay her sick leave along the amount she were making some months leading up to leave.

I do not think there is any reason to tell your employer that you do not plan on returning after taking leave.  I certainly do not think you are required to do so.  That said, you are probably protected enough that you could give 2 weeks notice prior to the end of leave if you wanted to be courteous about it.

tonight, I take on Mission Impossible. I take a 3 year old and a 5 year old to a soccer game at 7pm and get them to last all the way through without freaking out on them.

6 and 2.5.  The younger one would rather play and probably do better than the 6.

Ts and Ps tonight kk

actually went ok. streamed animal mechanicals on my phone for the 3 year old, 5 year old did great in the game.

something that he does with MOV with his games is he adds the scores together.

"we scored 5 points and they scored 4 points so we won by 9 points!"

yeah you still obviously want to leave on good terms, but you should def take the benefit of the maternity leave

I think that keeps it on the endearing side of the line - 3rd or 4th I think is the line but it is still weird as hell

that's certainly a reason to consider not telling them but i'm not sure what that has to do with you not being able to think of any reason to tell them

Kinda in HR and we have Doctors do this to us all the time. Pisses me off, but I'm always actively looking to replace some of them anyways, so it's all fair. Do what you want. Just double check your contract and make sure there isn't anything in there that can eff you. :th_twocents:

Go back to work and then put in your two weeks like a good person and then they can't talk crap on you when it comes to references.

Pay it forward stuff here. MC helped me get my dream job. If you guys ever think about leaving a company and feel comfortable enough, let me review your contract before you do. I can literally tell you how not to get mumped.
