NEXT YEAR...
« on: March 20, 2017, 04:28:05 PM »
Man, looking at the roster and the incoming recruiting class: we are going to be bad.  Like 9th or 10th in the conference bad.
JMO...but yikes.  I hope I'm wrong.

We'll probably finish about the same as last year.

Depending on fall out from other schools looking at being somewhere between 4-6 in conference. Kenpom probably opens at 30. Good offseason and you looking at a team that finishes 20th in kenpom and a lot of anger and eggs to go around. Bad season looking at a bubble team and a lot of anger.

How crappy of a stinking corpse of a non-con will Oscar present us with for next season, especially with the reward he got this year?

I was just about to post that we'll likely be preseason 5 or 6.

Do we have any other option but to have the same team despite our record?

Sorry. It made me laugh to myself so I posted it. I know what you mean.

If it is Oscar and the weinerettes, we will be the dang best mediocre team in America.  I hold out hope yet for change, but trying to be pragmatic.  Pragmatism says if Oscar can get two grade premium 4 hotdogs we can be okay.  Mark Smith and a big whopper meat from Western Iowa.juco is a scoring and rebounding fool.  Riphide and Hacksaw will heal and are said to be serviceable.  Or we could be toilet paper.

I still think we will be a giant crap-show.  Will we finish ahead of TT in the conference?

i think we will finish 5th and go .500 next year. I think ISU and OSU are going to be super bad next year.

yeah, at this pt i think oscar has guaranteed himself at least 3 more years bc barring massive roster attrition we'll be abt the same next year and likely better the year after. so 2019-20 he can write of as having a "young" roster again. 2020-21 will the the real make or break year. or he'll retire.

How in the hell are we going to be the same after losing a NBA draft pick and another guy who was arguably the best big man we've had in 25 years? Good programs don't always bounce back from that type of attrition.

We're losing Michael Beasley?
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

You missed that discussion, it's certainly on the top half of the basketball board, we had it like yesterday

Wes was a solid college player, but I think he is getting drafted (if so) more on pro potential than on college production. His impact at K-State was solid, but it was the same for both his JR and SR seasons (3rd team level).

DJamer was very solid, but he never even got HM.

We return 2 guys that were all newcomer as FR (Wade and Brown). I think the impact of Wes and DJamer can be replaced at a base level with those 2, plus potentially solid guys like Kam, Sneed, and maybe Maurice. Its not like DJamer and Wes caused us to be a great defensive team and our offense was very up and down. There is plenty coming back, given decent improvement, that next year's team should be able to play at a .500 (ish) Big 12 level and be a bubble team (again).

Now, to go above and beyond that guys like Diarra or Love need to be impact guys, or somehow one of our 3 star recruits needs to be a Foster type, or we need to somehow land an impact JUCO or grad transfer with our final spot.

Either way I don't think its crazy to think we'll repeat this year's level of "success" with next year's team. I get that some Big 12 teams potentially could be better, but I think others have significant losses that could offset that. Also, while we may not repeat this year's road/neutral success (which was pretty solid), its reasonable that we should/could be better at home in Big 12 play.
