Title: 2017 Recruiting Thread
Post by: Chingon on September 30, 2014, 10:46:52 AM
Has this guy been talked about?

Joey St. Pierre (http://nwherald.com/2014/09/25/richmond-burton-sophomore-st-pierre-garnering-plenty-of-recruiting-attention/abk1onn/?__xsl=/print.xsl)

Is this Chingon's first cruit scoop?

Or this 2017? :ck:

2017, I don't think he will get an offer for a while. I would assume Illinois leads for him. I don't think he fits our systems specially defensively. Doesn't have good quickness.

Quote from: http://nwherald.com/
CRYSTAL LAKE— College recruiters are taking notice of Richmond-Burton’s 6-foot-9 center Joey St. Pierre.

Earlier this week, coaches from Kansas State came to Illinois to run the sophomore through a workout. He performed a variety of individual drills and then played some pickup games.

Next week, he expects coaches from Georgetown to make the trip.

The two schools are just a few of those showing early interest in St. Pierre. He has received letters from more than 15 schools, including Division I schools Nebraska and Wisconsin and Division I FCS school Illinois State.

The feedback from coaches has been positive so far, but they want him to continue to develop into a scoring threat.

“They’re saying to attack more,” the sophomore said. "Don’t really worry about the defense. Try to go through the defense.”

The center has visited a few of the schools over the last few months for unofficial visits.

Last weekend, he was at Illinois State. He said that he likes the coaching staff and the Redbirds’ strength and conditioning program.

But for now, Wisconsin is the early front runner, though it is still very early in the process.

“That was the first place on a visit,” St. Pierre said. “I got a really good first impression.”

To prepare for the upcoming season, the sophomore has been working out at Your World Fitness in Spring Grove, where he’s doing exercises to improve his core strength and vertical leap. He's also working with Illinois Wolves, an AAU team out of Bolingbrook.

Once the high school season gets started, Richmond-Burton will count on him even more than during his freshman year.

After losing three starting seniors from last season’s Big Northern Conference East Division championship squad, the Rockets are left with a young – and relatively inexperienced – core, with Sam Kaufman as the lone senior.

“We’re really young this year,” St. Pierre said. “I think I’ll have to be more of a leader and be a lot more vocal.”

I was fine with Brad coming in with the kids we had.  If oscar bruces our roster further and we lose a recruit or two, I don't know if that is something Brad could overcome.   :dunno:

I have told myself that Brad will come regardless of Currie and/or the state of program but I wouldn't blame him if he doesn't want to come in here and clean a complete crap show up for JC in 2 or 3 years.

Mike McGuirl, East Catholic HS, CT Basketball Club – While Silva was one of the biggest stories of the beginning of the grassroots season, McGuirl made more waves than almost anyone down the stretch of July, in the final week of the month to be precise. A true three range scoring threat, the CBC and East Catholic guard caught fire in Orlando and saw his recruitment jump several steps in the process. By the time it was all said and done, he hadn’t just become a mid-major priority, but had accumulated multiple Atlantic 10 offers and even one from Kansas State.

Quote
Moving forward, one of the most intriguing things about McGuirl to college coaches was that he was already a three range scoring threat yet still had his best basketball in front of him. He owns a pretty shooting stroke that is both quick and compact as well as equally good off the catch or the dribble. Combine that with good athleticism at the rim, a reported strong work ethic and the fact that he continues to improve and evolve on a consistent basis and his future is clearly a bright one.

FWIW, 247 had Darien Jackson and Paul Reed favoring KSU as well.

If that is true, that's pretty much the whole class right there.  A combo, a SG, and two posts in Reed and Shadd*.

*Reed apparently is listed on most sites as 6'5", but I guess he's measuring 6'8" now and picked up more interest on the summer circuit.

I am pretty sure the staff pulled all combo/shooting guard offers when Mike Mcguire  committed.

I know.  I am trying to find at a least one rose in a feedlot.  Kind like the kid who was digging furiously in a large pile of horse dung.  His dad asked him what he was doing.  He replied with this much manure there has to be a pony somewhere in here.  Just looking for the pony.

there are a lot of things people can criticize oscar about but his ability to recruit really shouldn't be one of those things especially since it's so obviously wrong.

he's shown that he can recruit and develop his talent at k-state, stick with the chicken nuggets jokes

A week ago we were listed as one of the three top.schools being considered by Mark.Smith.  The.others were.Northwestern and Butler.  He is a 4 star recruit.  Now greedy sony-beeches Kentucky and Izzo are swooping in to nab him.   I favor limiting the number of top recruits per.school.  Spread the wealth.  Although probably wouldn't makea difference as Ocsar has 2 stars turning him down.  A poor recruiting class is going to mean five years of living in the armpit and buttcrack of college basketball even if oscar is canned.

You might check out some video on him.  Guy is a skilled 6ft 9 player.  Will be a sophomore next year.  Top 150 player at 190 lbs and is now220.  Redshirted at Utah.  A player like this is not compromising the future although we will be lucky to sign him as he is looking for playing time.

I can't imagine the chances of immediate playing time at a major program, for a guy who averaged 9 and 6 for a community college program that went 19-11 in a terrible conference, are all that vast.

I had a dream we signed a guy named R. Kroot and KU fans thought we had made it up to troll them since it was basically "recruit". Laughed at how clever my subconscious is, then realized said subconscious also knows that we sign no-names to the extent that fans have no way to look up to confirm whether or not they're real people.
