Friday morning, March 2 2012, K-State lost its greatest fan, Shwan "Fatty" Alkhatib. He was in New York City taking care of his brother, Weesam Alkhatib who was undergoing cancer treatment. Weesam passed away on April 14th. His family has asked in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Shwan "Fatty" Alkhatib Memorial Fund. The memorial fund will enable Shwan and Weesam to share their love of the Kansas State Wildcats by renovating the student lounge in the engineering building in Durland Hall, where both brothers spent their time studying as undergraduate students. Donations will also be placed in Weesam's name toward research for his rare form of cancer called peritoneal mesothelioma. Learn more at curemeso.org.
