Hey, guys! Time out on the coup: prayer time!

Quote
Fergal Keane BBC News tweets: The last time an army overthrew a democratically elected Islamist party we had the murderous Algerian civil war. Egypt dynamics are different but there is huge danger that if coup reports are true, it will lead to extremist backlash.

See, this seems extreme, but we're talking about secularists vs. fundamentalists, right?  I mean, hey, this is within the realm of possibility, right?

Check out how everyone stopped protesting to bow for prayers. This isn't seculars vs Muslims. Liberals vs fundamentalists might be close, but the difference between an Egyptian liberal and an American liberal is pretty big.

It's really just people refusing authoritarian leadership. If it happened in Venezuela after 20 years of Chavez or in Cuba after 60 years of Castros, the perception would be different. At least, that's how Egyptians feel.

Def tupac. Arabs have always identified with Latam indigenous groups, so a martyr rapper named after a rebel Incan guerrilla leader is an obvious choice.

These are really popular here, too ("brothers" and "sheep" rhyme in Arabic

We are currently chilling at the embassy btw. May try and make a run home if we see a window (I voted prayer time but whatevs) but we're probably here for the night.

For reference, I dropped a star on the embassy. The Sadat Metro sign is where tahrir is.

I feel like if someone wanted to revolt in Missouri, this is what it would look like.

So all those people at the square, what's the goal there?  I mean aside from the rape circles, what's there to do?  Doesn't appear that there's a speaker or anything to focus on or stick around for.  Shouldn't they be rolling up on wherever Morsi's at rather than rise their flags and rape?

All that said, I'll forget about any logic gaps if any of them want to rise the pak head about now.

Why did people protest in front of the fOOD rather than storm Currie's office?

Because that's where they could be for a short period of time until they got into the fOOD.  Also, until about 2 hours earlier, it was the site of the #Gottlieb4KSU rally.
